Did you know that the Levantine dialects, also known as the Greater Sham dialects, are Arabic dialects that originated in the Levant or Greater Syria due to the region's linguistic transformation from Aramaic to Arabic? This happened after the Arab Sham Muslim conquest in the 7th century AD. Linguists have noted that there is considerable influence between many slang terms of the Shami dialects and the Aramaic language vocabulary. For instance, it is estimated that approximately 50% of the Lebanese dialect's grammar structure remains similar to that of Suriyanism, which is one of the dialects originating from the Middle Aramaic that prevailed in Lebanon at the time. The Northern Shamia dialects and Southern Shamia dialects are known as Eastern Mediterranean dialects in European languages, such as Levantine Arabic.
